A woman in her 50s jumped from a second-floor window to escape a fire at a townhouse on Mésanges Drive in Ottawa’s south end early Thursday morning.

Paramedics reported the incident after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls just before 4:30 a.m. about flames and smoke coming from the building. Ottawa Fire Services responded quickly, tackling the blaze and searching the home, where no occupants were found.

The fire was brought under control by 5:04 a.m. The woman who jumped was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a man in his 20s received treatment for smoke inhalation. The fire has displaced at least 10 individuals and caused damage to five townhouses. An investigation is underway to determine the fire’s cause and origin.
