An 81-year-old Toronto woman has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in North York on Wednesday night. The incident took place around 9 p.m. near Sheppard Avenue West and Bathurst Street, where emergency crews responded to reports of a collision.
At the intersection of Goddard Street and Codsell Avenue, a 64-year-old woman named Lillian Marlene Nagy was found dead. Her husband later confirmed she had been riding her e-scooter at the time of the crash. The driver involved fled the scene, prompting police to search for a white sedan believed to have been responsible.
By Thursday afternoon, investigators had located a white Mazda in the area. Joan Andrews, a resident of Toronto, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene. She is expected to appear in court later today.
Nagy and her husband, John Moran, had recently retired from the Toronto District School Board after three decades of service. They had also spent 20 years supporting children in a village near their second home in Malindi, Kenya.
A local resident who witnessed the aftermath described the scene as deeply disturbing, suggesting the vehicle was traveling at a high speed through what is normally a calm residential area.
