Toronto police are asking for the public’s help locating a woman whose two dogs allegedly escaped a fenced-in dog park and attacked a person and their pet in Summerhill.
The incident occurred on Sept. 10 in the area of Avenue Road and Roxborough Street. According to investigators, the woman was inside an off-leash section of an enclosed park with her two dogs when the animals got out and ran toward a nearby person walking a dog.
The person, a man in his 70s, was injured but is expected to recover. Their dog, however, suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack.
Police are now searching for 40-year-old Tanychia Black. She is described as approximately five-foot-10 with a heavy build. At the time she was last seen, Black was wearing a navy-blue bonnet, mustard-coloured hoodie, light-coloured pants and dark shoes featuring white soles.
Black is wanted on several charges, including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, two counts related to failing to stop a dog from biting or attacking, and two counts involving a dog biting a person or domestic animal.
The dogs remain a key part of the investigation. Police describe them as large pit bull or bull terrier-type dogs, both dark grey or grey in colour. One of the animals has a distinctive white marking on its chest.
Update – Police arrested Black on Sept 13 and laid multiple charges, including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, obstructing a police officer and offences under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act related to failing to prevent an attack and dogs biting a person or domestic animal. The two dogs involved in the attack have not been located yet.
