A 38-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision in Mississauga early Sunday morning.
Peel police responded to the intersection of Eglinton Avenue and Erin Mills Parkway at about 6:10 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of a pedestrian being hit. The woman was taken to hospital with critical injuries but later died.
Investigators initially believed a light-coloured sedan had fled the scene, but determined that vehicle belonged to a witness who reported the crash. Police later identified the suspect vehicle as a white Mercedes, which they believe continued eastbound on Eglinton Avenue after the crash. The vehicle is also believed to have sustained significant front-end and windshield damage.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance and dashcam footage and are asking auto repair shops and scrapyards to report any heavily damaged vehicles that may be linked to the suspect vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
