A fatal pedestrian collision in Owen Sound is under investigation after a woman died following a crash Tuesday night.
Owen Sound Police Service say officers were called around 8 p.m. to the intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East for reports of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.
Investigators determined the truck was heading east on 10th Street East and turning north onto 16th Avenue East when it struck a woman who was crossing the roadway. She was transported to a trauma centre in the London area, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Police have not released her identity out of consideration for her family.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The police service’s collision investigation unit and forensic branch examined the area with support from the Ontario Provincial Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation and reopened at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
