An older woman was rescued from her vehicle following a serious head-on collision in Ottawa’s west end on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called just before 3:32 p.m. to the 100 block of Cedarview Road, near the popular Bruce Pit, after reports of a two-vehicle crash. Ottawa Fire Services said police alerted them to a head-on collision with one driver trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived within minutes to find a black SUV and a blue car with extensive damage. The SUV driver managed to exit without injuries. However, the woman in the blue car was pinned inside, prompting crews to stabilize the vehicle and deploy hydraulic rescue tools to remove the driver’s door.
After being freed, the woman was assessed by firefighters, placed on a spinal board and handed over to paramedics. She was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was reported to be in stable condition.
Crews also addressed leaking fluids on the roadway, applying absorbent materials before clearing the scene shortly after 4 p.m.
