On Friday morning, Ottawa firefighters and paramedics rescued a worker who had fallen into a trench at a construction site on Heron Road.
The incident occurred around 11:21 a.m. while the worker was removing temporary barriers from a trench in a utility tunnel near Riverside Drive. The worker fell onto his back.
A specialized rope rescue team from Ottawa Fire Services quickly responded and began lifting the worker through the same opening. Paramedics helped secure the worker in a litter, which was then hoisted out.
He was treated on-site for a leg injury before being transported to the hospital in stable condition.
