Barrie Police Service are urging motorists to inspect their tires and adapt to winter road conditions following a rollover in Barrie late Thursday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Big Bay Point Road between Ashford Drive and Montgomery Drive. Police say the driver lost control and hit a snowbank, causing the vehicle to flip and land upside down. Images released by officers show the car resting on its roof at the roadside.

Investigators later determined the vehicle’s tires were severely worn, with no visible tread — a major hazard in snowy weather. Despite the dramatic scene, no one was injured.

Officers are pointing to the crash as a cautionary example, reminding drivers to ensure their vehicles are winter-ready. Under Ontario’s Motor Vehicle Tire Safety Regulations, tires must comply with established safety standards, as bald or worn tires significantly reduce grip on snow and ice, raising the likelihood of losing control.
